Dr. KURUKURI SRINIVASA RAO born on 01.01.1952 in a village Chinakondepudi in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. He did his B.Sc. (Ag) and M.Sc. (Agronomy) from ANGRAU, Bapatla and JNKVV, Jabalpur during 1974 and 1976 respectively. He obtained his Post Graduate Diploma in Farm Management and Ph.D degree in Agronomy from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Later he obtained his Post Doctoral Degree in Crop Modeling from Wageningen University, the Netherland in 1994. He qualified for ARS and Joined as Scientist S-1 at Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack in the year 1979. Subsequently, he promoted to Senior Scientist in 1985, Principal Scientist in 1998 and selected as Head, Crop Production in 2006 at the same institute. He served in that position for 7 years and retired as Head, Division of Crop Production during 31.12.2013. He has 35 years research experience in rice Agronomy and worked on Agronomic management, Farming system and cropping system research and crop modeling. He Published 45 research papers, 96 conference proceedings /book chapters, 16 Popular articles/ short notes, 6 books (edited), 28 Manuals/teaching aids, 25 Research bulletins/extension bulletins and 2 success stories.
His research contribution includes Development of sustainable rice based integrated farming system model for irrigated ecosystem for house hold food security of small and marginal farmers that gives a net income of Rs. 50,000/ac/year; Identification of Profitable rice based cropping systems for irrigated (Rice-potato-sesame) and rainfed upland ecosystems (Rice+arhar inter cropping) to get Rs. 8,000 to 25,000/ha profit and Development of low cost production technologies for hybrid rice, scented basmati rice, late-planted rice and summer groundnut. He also associated in release of variety Naveen (2005, in Orissa) suitable for favourable rainfed uplands, favourable rainfed shallow lowlands and irrigated lands during kharif and irrigated lands during rabi. Refined and fine-tuned the several rice production technologies through farmer participatory research for their speedy adoption via TAR- IVLP, NATP & IRRI collaborative CREMNET & IFAD projects. During his research carrier he visited Netherlands, Philippines, Malaysia, South Korea, China and Fiji Islands for attending research conferences, workshops, symposia etc. He selected for FAO Fellowship in the year 2000 to undergo training in China on developing cultivation package for hybrid rice and ITEC Expert, Rice (MEA, New Delhi, Govt. of India) in the year 2006 to revitalize rice Industry in Fiji Islands. After two years of his retirement he joined as Associate Dean in NS Agricultural College, Markapur in December 2017 and continuing.
